Do not use Calculator.net as your final TDEE or maintenance-calorie target

Calculator.net is useful for a first estimate. Its TDEE calculator asks for body measurements and activity, estimates basal metabolic rate (BMR), and applies an activity factor. It offers different BMR formulas and an optional body-fat input. The number it returns is an estimate, not a measurement of how many calories you actually burn each day.

Why Calculator.net may miss your maintenance calories

  1. The activity choice is broad. “Moderately active” cannot capture how much you walk at work, move at home, or sit between workouts. Two people with the same gym schedule can burn different amounts across the rest of the day.
  2. A formula starts from population averages. Even with an optional body-fat input, age, size, and an activity label cannot reveal every individual difference in expenditure.
  3. The result does not test itself against your progress. The calculator's input form does not use weeks of your calorie intake and body-weight history to check whether its estimate fits your actual trend. Your maintenance level can also change as your weight and routine change.

That does not mean its result is useless. Use it as a starting number, then compare several weeks of logged intake with your weight trend before treating it as a calorie target. Our activity-level guide explains why choosing a higher multiplier from workout frequency alone can overshoot.

A TDEE estimate that updates from your results

MacroCodex gives you an initial maintenance estimate and refines it from your recorded calorie totals and body weight. Its Smart Calorie Burn v2 model is designed to handle changing trends and short-term weight noise. The app also updates calorie targets for your goal and is free, with no ads or subscription. You can use a separate food logger to collect daily calorie totals.
